Overview
Coastborn are Humans whose surviving traditions originate from communities built around seas, islands and shorelines. They are naturally drawn toward Aldoria’s coast and major waterways and are often among the first settlers willing to explore unfamiliar shores.
Appearance
Coastborn vary greatly in physical appearance. Their clothing traditionally favours lightweight layers, leather, weatherproof cloaks and garments that allow easy movement around boats and water. Rope bracelets, shells, carved bone, coins and maritime symbols are commonly used as decorations.
Personality
Coastborn tend to be adaptable, adventurous and socially confident. Generations of dependence on trade and travel produced a culture comfortable dealing with strangers. They often value practical experience over rigid tradition and are generally more willing than many cultures to explore unknown regions.
How They Live
Fishing, sailing, coastal gathering and trade are central to Coastborn life. In early Aldoria, many construct small fishing camps and harbours before permanent roads exist, using rivers and coastlines as natural travel routes between isolated communities.
Culture & Traditions
Stories of journeys, storms and distant lands hold great cultural importance. Coastborn traditions often include marking important voyages with small tokens or carvings. Sharing food with a returning traveller and exchanging stories of what they discovered are common practices.
Settlements
Coastborn communities favour natural harbours, sheltered beaches, islands and river mouths. Docks, fishing platforms, storage sheds and lookout towers appear quickly wherever a permanent settlement begins to form.
Common Roles / Professions (Optional)
Breeder, Farmer, Beast Master, Weaponsmith and trading-oriented professions fit Coastborn characters well. Fishers, sailors, explorers, merchants and animal handlers are particularly common.
Relationships With Other Races
Coastborn often have fewer cultural barriers toward other races because travel and trade regularly expose them to different peoples. Halflings and Goblins can become valuable trading partners, while Dwarven metalwork and Elven crafted goods are highly prized.
