Crag dwellers from volcanic wastes who withstand extreme heat, forge iron in magma, and protect ancestral fires.
Ash Orcs are hardy Orc clans that settled in volcanic regions, ruined battlefields and barren highlands where few others wished to live. Their communities developed around survival, salvage and hard labour, producing a people known for endurance and practical thinking.
Ash Orcs commonly possess grey, charcoal, ash-brown or dark stone-coloured skin rather than the greener tones of other Orcs. Their tusks are often pale, dark or heavily worn, and black, grey and white hair are common. Soot-like markings and pale scars may stand out strongly against their skin. Their clothing uses thick leather, dark cloth and heat-resistant layers where needed.
Ash Orcs are generally practical, resilient and slow to complain. They value actions over words and often have little respect for people who boast without proving themselves. Many are blunt, but this directness is usually considered honesty rather than hostility.
Mining, salvage, smithing, animal keeping and trade are central to Ash Orc life. Communities often reuse abandoned structures and damaged materials rather than building everything from scratch. Water, food and useful metal are carefully managed.
Survival through hardship is one of the most respected qualities in Ash Orc society. Tools and weapons that have been repaired repeatedly are often valued more than pristine replacements because they represent endurance. Families commonly preserve objects recovered from old ruins or battles as reminders of what their ancestors survived.
Ash Orc settlements are often constructed among dark stone, volcanic valleys, ruined fortifications and barren plateaus. Stone walls, workshops, storage buildings and communal shelters are prioritised over decorative structures.
Armorsmith, Weaponsmith, Alchemist and Beast Master are common. Miners, salvagers, builders, guards and traders also play important roles.
Ash Orcs generally respect Dwarves for their smithing and Tieflings for their ability to thrive in harsh environments. Goblins are frequent trade partners due to their skill at salvage. Giants may be respected or treated as rivals depending on territory, while woodland races often seem unfamiliar to Ash Orc communities.
