Touched by chaotic rifts and deep void currents, bearing barbed ridges, unpredictable instincts, and fierce magic.
Abyssal Tieflings are a rarer branch of Tiefling ancestry known for unusual colours, more dramatic horns and a mysterious reputation. Their bloodlines are associated with older and less understood forces than those of Infernal Tieflings. As a result, many Abyssal communities became secretive and self-reliant after generations of suspicion from outsiders.
Abyssal Tieflings commonly possess violet, deep blue, charcoal, black or very dark grey skin. Their horns are often larger or more unusual in shape than those of other Tieflings, sometimes twisting asymmetrically or extending outward before curving back. White, silver, black and dark purple hair are common. Their eyes may appear pale, violet, blue or gold. Dark jewellery and intricate markings are widely used.
Abyssal Tieflings tend to be reserved, analytical and difficult to read. They rarely trust strangers immediately and often prefer observation before involvement. Many are highly self-controlled and dislike being treated as frightening curiosities. Once loyalty is established, however, it can be exceptionally strong.
Abyssal Tieflings frequently inhabit remote settlements, old ruins and less populated regions where they can live without constant interference. Alchemy, scholarship, crafting, hunting and exploration are common. Some become travellers specifically because remaining in one place attracts unwanted attention.
Knowledge and self-mastery hold great importance. Many Abyssal families maintain detailed histories of their ancestry, believing that understanding one’s past prevents others from defining it for them. Ceremonial markings, jewellery and horn ornamentation may represent family, oaths or personal achievements.
Abyssal communities tend to favour secluded ruins, fortified valleys, underground structures or settlements away from major roads. Their architecture often uses dark stone, enclosed interiors and low lighting. Settlements are designed to be defensible and difficult for strangers to approach unnoticed.
Alchemist, Weaponsmith, Armorsmith and Beast Master are common choices. Historians, scouts, explorers and specialised craftsmen are also highly valued.
Abyssal Tieflings often find common ground with Dark Elves and Unseelie Fae due to their shared preference for privacy and their experience with outsider suspicion. They may view Humans and surface Elves cautiously until trust is established. Infernal Tieflings are generally regarded as kin, even where their traditions differ.
