Overview

Ashborn Tieflings are pale, grey-skinned descendants of Tiefling bloodlines that settled within volcanic regions, ruined territories and places scarred by fire or conflict. They are known for resilience and adaptability, having built communities in landscapes abandoned by many other peoples.

Appearance

Ashborn Tieflings usually possess ash-grey, pale stone, charcoal or muted white skin. Their horns are commonly black, dark grey or bone-coloured, while their hair may be white, black, grey or silver. Their eyes often appear orange, amber, red or pale gold. Some carry darker markings across the skin that resemble soot, cracks or old burns, though these are natural colouration rather than injuries.

Personality

Ashborn Tieflings are often practical, patient and difficult to intimidate. They are accustomed to harsh surroundings and tend to value preparation over bravado. Many dislike unnecessary conflict but will defend their homes fiercely. Reliability and endurance are respected more than charm or status.

How They Live

Ashborn communities survive through mining, smithing, scavenging ruins, animal keeping and trade. They are particularly skilled at finding value in landscapes other races consider barren. Water, food and building materials are carefully managed, and waste is strongly discouraged.

Culture & Traditions

Rebuilding is a major theme in Ashborn culture. Ruined tools, abandoned structures and damaged settlements are rarely discarded if they can be repaired. Families often preserve objects from previous generations as reminders of survival through difficult periods. Fire is viewed less as something mystical and more as a symbol of destruction followed by renewal.

Settlements

Ashborn settlements are often constructed among dark stone, old ruins, volcanic valleys or damaged fortifications. Buildings tend to be sturdy and functional, with workshops, storage rooms and communal shelters given high priority. Metal and stone are used heavily due to the environments in which they live.

Common Roles / Professions (Optional)

Armorsmith, Weaponsmith, Alchemist and Beast Master are especially common. Miners, builders, salvagers and guards are also important within Ashborn settlements.

Relationships With Other Races

Ashborn Tieflings generally respect Dwarves for their craftsmanship and Orcs for their resilience. Goblins are frequent trading partners due to their talent for salvage. They may find Seelie Fae and woodland cultures unfamiliar, but usually care more about whether an individual is dependable than what race they belong to.
