Overview
Deep Dwarves are Dwarven clans that have lived for generations far beneath Aldoria’s surface. Their settlements lie in vast cavern systems, abandoned mines and ancient underground halls where contact with the surface may be rare. They are known for resilience, secrecy and exceptional knowledge of underground environments.
Appearance
Deep Dwarves commonly have pale, grey, ash-toned or muted complexions from generations spent away from sunlight. White, grey, black and silver hair are common. Their clothing uses dark leather, metal, heavy cloth and protective gear suited to mines and caverns. Lamps, goggles and tool harnesses are frequently worn.
Personality
Deep Dwarves tend to be cautious, patient and highly practical. They dislike unnecessary risk and rarely trust strangers quickly. Their humour can be dry and blunt, and they often take great pride in surviving environments that would defeat most surface dwellers.
How They Live
Mining, underground farming, fungi cultivation, metalworking and salvage are central to daily life. Water sources, ventilation and structural safety are treated as serious community concerns. Deep Dwarves are skilled at maintaining tunnels, lifts, bridges and underground infrastructure.
Culture & Traditions
Knowledge of the deep places is treated almost like inheritance. Maps, mining routes and warnings about unstable regions are passed carefully between generations. Repairing and preserving old structures is considered more honourable than abandoning them without cause.
Settlements
Deep Dwarf settlements are built inside caverns, mine complexes and ancient underground strongholds. Narrow defensive approaches, heavy gates, bridges and multi-level halls are common. Light is provided by braziers, lamps, crystals and controlled fires.
Common Roles / Professions (Optional)
Armorsmith, Weaponsmith, Alchemist and Saddlesmith are common, alongside miners, engineers, builders and salvagers.
Relationships With Other Races
Deep Dwarves interact frequently with Dark Elves and Cave Goblins, creating both trade and rivalry. They are often suspicious of Trolls occupying cave systems. Surface Dwarves are still regarded as kin, although cultural differences can create tension after generations apart.
