Overview
Mountain Dwarves are the most traditional of Aldoria’s Dwarven peoples, known for vast strongholds, deep mines, heavy armour and generations of craftsmanship. Their communities are built around stone, metal and family legacy, with many clans tracing their ancestry back through centuries of miners, smiths, builders and warriors.
Appearance
Mountain Dwarves are typically broad, compact and heavily built. Thick beards, braided hair and metal beard-rings are common among males, while many females wear elaborate braids and engraved jewellery. Their clothing often includes heavy leather, fur, chain and plate, with bronze, iron, dark red and stone-grey being common colours.
Personality
Mountain Dwarves are often stubborn, disciplined and deeply loyal. They value reliability, craftsmanship and keeping one’s word. Outsiders may find them slow to trust, but once a bond is formed it is usually taken very seriously.
How They Live
Mining, smithing, stonework, animal keeping and trade form the backbone of Mountain Dwarf life. Many settlements are largely self-sufficient, producing tools, armour, weapons and building materials from the resources beneath their mountains.
Culture & Traditions
Family history and craftsmanship carry enormous importance. Weapons, tools and armour may be passed down for generations, with each owner adding marks or repairs rather than replacing them. Great feats of construction, mining and smithing are remembered alongside victories in battle.
Settlements
Mountain Dwarves favour fortified halls carved into mountains and cliffs. These strongholds often contain mines, forge districts, great halls, storage chambers and heavily defended gates. Stone bridges, carved pillars and monumental statues are common features.
Common Roles / Professions (Optional)
Armorsmith, Weaponsmith, Saddlesmith, Farmer and Breeder are common. Miners, masons, builders, guards and engineers are also highly respected.
Relationships With Other Races
Mountain Dwarves often respect Snow Elves and Mountain Fawns for their ability to survive harsh terrain. They commonly trade with Humans and Halflings. Relations with Deep Dwarves are usually close but can be strained by disagreements over tradition, while Trolls and Giants may be treated cautiously where territories overlap.
