Sure-footed cliff travelers with sturdy curved horns who scale steep crags and navigate alpine gorges.
Mountain Fawns inhabit Aldoria’s high valleys, rocky forests and steep mountain passes. Generations of life in difficult terrain have produced communities known for endurance, physical resilience and strong traditions of mutual responsibility. Mountain Fawns often act as guides through regions that other travellers consider nearly impassable.
Mountain Fawns are generally heavier and more powerfully built than their woodland relatives. Their lower bodies often have thicker brown, grey, black or pale fur suited to colder climates. Their horns tend to be larger and heavier, frequently curling outward or backward. Thick cloaks, layered leather, fur and wool are common parts of their clothing.
Mountain Fawns are typically patient, stubborn and dependable. They respect practical skill and rarely boast about accomplishments. Survival in the mountains requires cooperation, so abandoning a companion in danger is considered a serious disgrace. They can appear reserved around strangers, but often become deeply loyal once trust has been earned.
Hunting, livestock keeping, mountain farming, gathering and trade across high passes are essential parts of their lives. Food and supplies are carefully stored for colder seasons. Mountain Fawns are taught climbing, navigation and shelter building from a young age, and many become skilled at travelling through snow, cliffs and rocky ground.
Endurance is one of the greatest virtues in Mountain Fawn culture. Long journeys, difficult hunts and surviving dangerous storms are remembered through stories, carvings and horn decorations. Some communities carve small symbols into horn rings or jewellery to represent mountains crossed, beasts hunted or lives saved.
Their settlements are commonly built against cliffs, within sheltered valleys or around caves that provide protection from severe weather. Stone foundations and timber structures are widespread, with narrow paths and lookout points overlooking nearby mountain routes.
Armorsmith, Weaponsmith, Beast Master, Breeder and Farmer are common professions. Mountain Fawns are also respected as hunters, guides, guards and caravan escorts.
Mountain Fawns often respect Dwarves and Snow Elves because of their shared understanding of mountain life. Relationships with Giants can vary from peaceful trade to territorial disputes. Trolls are treated cautiously, particularly where mountain territories overlap.
