Overview

Woodland Fawns are the most widespread of Aldoria’s Fawn bloodlines, inhabiting old forests, wooded valleys and hidden groves far from large settlements. They are renowned as trackers, archers and guides, moving through dense woodland with remarkable ease. Their communities place great importance on protecting the paths, animals and resources that sustain them.

Appearance

Woodland Fawns commonly possess brown, chestnut, reddish or dark fur across their lower bodies, with cloven hooves and curved horns that vary greatly in shape. Brown, auburn, black and dark-blonde hair are common. Their clothing is usually made from leather, woven fabrics, leaves and natural fibres in green, brown and earthy tones. Flowers, feathers, beads and carved wooden rings are often used to decorate their horns.

Personality

Woodland Fawns tend to be alert, curious and independent. They are usually welcoming toward travellers who behave respectfully, but become highly protective when their forests are threatened. They often prefer practical action over long debate and value individuals who can prove themselves through skill and reliability.

How They Live

Hunting, gathering, small-scale farming, herbalism and animal keeping form the foundation of Woodland Fawn life. Children are taught how to recognise plants, animal tracks and changes in weather from an early age. Many communities maintain trails through the forest that appear ordinary to outsiders but connect important hunting grounds, settlements and sacred sites.

Culture & Traditions

Woodland Fawns place great importance on the First Path, a traditional journey undertaken as a young Fawn approaches adulthood. The individual must travel beyond the safety of their settlement, navigate the wilderness and return using their own skills. Horn decorations may later be added to mark achievements, family bonds or important journeys.

Settlements

Woodland Fawn settlements are usually small and hidden beneath dense tree cover. Homes are constructed from timber, stone and natural overhangs, often surrounding a central gathering place or ancient standing stones. They avoid clearing more woodland than necessary and prefer settlements that blend naturally into their surroundings.

Common Roles / Professions (Optional)

Beast Master, Breeder, Farmer, Alchemist and Weaponsmith are particularly common. Woodland Fawns also make excellent hunters, scouts, herbalists and guides.

Relationships With Other Races

Woodland Fawns generally have close relationships with Wood Elves, Wild Fae and Seelie Fae. Halflings are often welcomed as traders and travellers. They may become suspicious of Humans, Dwarves or Orcs when large settlements, logging, mining or warfare threaten nearby forests.
