Hardened nomad scavengers who thrive in sun-baked canyons, dune markets, and desert ruin excavating.
Desert Goblins are nomadic and semi-nomadic communities that survive across Aldoria’s driest regions, rocky badlands and exposed plains. They are known as traders, scavengers and caravan guides who can travel for long periods with limited supplies. Their ability to find value in seemingly worthless objects makes them skilled merchants and craftsmen.
Desert Goblins commonly have tan, dusty green, brown or yellow-olive skin. Their hair is usually dark and kept short, braided or covered to protect against heat and dust. Loose cloth, scarves, leather wraps and lightweight armour are common. Jewellery frequently consists of coins, glass, beads and metal recovered through trade.
Desert Goblins are generally confident, persuasive and adaptable. Bargaining is often treated as a social skill rather than simply a business transaction. Many enjoy storytelling and exaggeration, particularly when attempting to convince a buyer that an ordinary object is extremely valuable.
Trade, caravan work, scavenging, hunting and animal keeping support most Desert Goblin groups. Water sources and safe travel routes are guarded knowledge. Communities often move between markets, ruins and seasonal camps rather than remaining in one settlement throughout the year.
Hospitality is important because survival in harsh regions often depends on cooperation. Guests offered food or water are expected to respect the camp in return. Trade agreements may be sealed with small gifts, tokens or shared meals, and experienced merchants often pass their best routes only to trusted relatives or apprentices.
Many Desert Goblins use temporary camps made from cloth, hide and lightweight wooden frames. Permanent communities may develop around wells, oases, ruins or major trade routes. Markets are usually the centre of these settlements, filled with salvaged goods, tools and unusual objects.
Alchemist, Weaponsmith, Armorsmith, Beast Master and trading-focused characters fit Desert Goblin culture particularly well. Caravan guides, scavengers, craftsmen and animal handlers are also common.
Desert Goblins commonly interact with Humans, Orcs, Halflings and Tieflings through trade. They generally care less about a traveller’s race than whether they can be trusted to honour a deal. They may distrust isolated communities that refuse trade or attempt to control important water sources.
