Stoneborn
Marked individuals born with areas of hardened, stone-like flesh covering parts of their bodies.
Born altered, misunderstood and resilient.

The Marked are people born visibly different from those around them. Father and Mother as Humans but still somehow develop strange characteristics.
From birth, their bodies display unusual characteristics that cannot always be explained by ordinary ancestry. Some develop hardened or stone-like skin, others possess strange heat-scarred patterns, unusual pigmentation, abnormal growths, hardened tissue or other physical mutations.
No single explanation for the Marked is accepted throughout Aldoria.
Some scholars believe their condition is a rare inherited mutation. Certain religious groups claim the Marked are touched by divine forces, while others insist they are cursed, corrupted or shaped by ancient magic.
The truth remains unknown.
A Marked child may be born to completely ordinary parents with no known history of the condition, while other families have recorded Marked individuals appearing repeatedly across generations.
Because of this uncertainty, attitudes toward them vary enormously. In some settlements they are accepted as ordinary citizens. In others they may be feared, revered, pitied, studied or treated with suspicion.
The Marked themselves are not united by a single belief about their condition. Some regard their traits as a gift, others as a burden, while many simply consider them part of who they are.
The Marked are fundamentally humanoid and most closely resemble Humans in overall body shape.
Their defining feature is the physical alteration they are born with.
These markings may cover only a small area of the body or become one of the individual's most noticeable features.
Examples may include:
Stone-like or hardened patches of skin
Cracked or unusually textured flesh
Scar-like patterns present from birth
Unusual skin pigmentation
Heat-darkened or ember-like markings
Hardened ridges or mineral-like growths
Distinctive eyes
Irregular patterns spreading across the face or limbs
These features should appear biological or naturally part of the character rather than being ordinary tattoos, paint or clothing.
Marked characters still retain normal humanoid features and should not automatically resemble Orcs, Elves, Tieflings, Trolls or other established Aldorian races.
Their ears should normally remain human-shaped unless a specific approved character concept states otherwise.
Being Marked does not automatically grant supernatural abilities.
Stone-like skin does not make a character invulnerable. Ember-like markings do not automatically allow them to control fire. Unusual physical characteristics do not provide free magic, enhanced strength, immortality or resistance to damage unless those abilities come from an approved class, profession, server mechanic or event.
Some mutations may even create disadvantages.
Hardened skin may reduce flexibility. Unusual growths may make armour uncomfortable. Distinctive physical traits can make disguising one's identity extremely difficult.
Marked individuals may also experience prejudice or unwanted attention because of their appearance.
Different cultures may regard them as cursed, blessed, dangerous or valuable, creating both opportunities and difficulties during roleplay.
Players should treat Marked traits primarily as character identity and roleplay features, not as a source of unrestricted mechanical advantages.
Maturity Age: The Marked generally reach adulthood at around 18 years of age.
Lifespan: Most Marked live approximately 70–110 years.
Their development generally follows a similar pattern to Humans, although certain physical traits may become more noticeable as they mature.
Some markings may be clearly visible from birth, while others gradually become more pronounced during childhood and adolescence.
Becoming older does not automatically cause a Marked character to develop new powers or mutations.
The Marked do not possess one unified civilisation or culture.
They are born throughout Aldoria and usually inherit the traditions, beliefs and customs of the communities in which they were raised.
Two Marked individuals may therefore have completely different backgrounds despite sharing similar physical traits.
What often connects them is their experience of living visibly different from those around them.
In regions where Marked individuals are accepted, they may live ordinary lives as farmers, craftsmen, soldiers, traders or scholars.
Elsewhere, they may form small communities or informal networks where Marked individuals protect, shelter and support one another.
Some dedicate their lives to discovering the origin of their condition. Others refuse to let the mystery define them.
There is no universal Marked religion, ideology or moral outlook.
A Marked character may believe their condition is:
A blessing
A curse
A mutation
An inherited bloodline
A consequence of ancient magic
A divine sign
Or simply a natural part of themselves
None of these explanations should be treated as confirmed fact within the lore.
The uncertainty surrounding their origins is intentional and should remain part of Aldoria's mystery.
The Marked can be found throughout many areas of Aldorian society and are not naturally restricted to any particular profession.
Suggested roles:
Armorsmith
Weaponsmith
